Bad News For Nft Enthusiasts From Twitter!'

One of the wealthiest business people in the world, Elon Musk, recently acquired Twitter and changed the platform's name to X. However, in the last minutes, the X management has terminated its support for NFTs.

NFT enthusiasts on X/Twitter will no longer be able to set an NFT as their profile picture. This feature was initiated in January 2022 under the previous management of Twitter. At that time, the company allowed Twitter Blue subscribers to use NFTs created on Ethereum (ERC-721 or ERC-1155 tokens) as their profile pictures, displayed in a hexagonal shape.

Users could gather more information about NFTs, such as the collection, contract address, TokenID, and the application of origin, from their profile pictures.

In 2022, Instagram and Facebook also began experimenting with displaying and sharing NFTs. Considering other social media platforms' discontinuation of NFT experiments, it is not surprising that X/Twitter has removed this feature.

Users with an NFT set still have hexagonal avatars as their profile pictures. Whether X will remove these as well remains uncertain.

The resurgence of NFT hype in the upcoming bull season could lead social media applications to take new steps towards NFTs.
