Inferno Drainer: Hacker Service Ceases Operations

"With the hope that you remember us as the best wallet emptier that has ever existed, forever."

One of the most widely used wallet draining services, Inferno Drainer, announced the cessation of its operations after assisting phishing scammers in stealing approximately $70 million worth of cryptocurrencies this year.

The Inferno Drainer team announced the news in a Telegram post dated November 26, stating, "It's time for us to continue our journey," and assured users that the files and infrastructure necessary to run the wallet emptier would not be destroyed to allow for a "smooth transition" to other services.

"We've had a long journey with all of you, and we want to thank you sincerely. Unfortunately, nothing lasts forever. We appreciate everyone who worked with us. With the hope that you remember us as the best wallet emptier that has ever existed. We hope we've been able to help you in your quest for money," the announcement stated.

Inferno Drainer gained prominence earlier this year after the closure of the notable Monkey Drainer. Like other similar services, Inferno also took a 20% cut from stolen cryptocurrencies by providing users with wallet-draining software.

According to analyses from the Web3 fraud-fighting platform Scam Sniffer, Inferno Drainer stole approximately $70 million from over 100,000 victims since February. However, the Inferno Drainer team claimed that the stolen amount exceeded $80 million.

The Inferno Drainer team deleted the service's Telegram account "mr_inferno_drainer" and warned users not to trust anyone using this name in the future.

Blockchain security firm CertiK stated to Cointelegraph that Inferno Drainer was "one of the most harmful phishing kits for the community." The company, in an update on November 25, indicated that there are still several active providers, including competitors like Pink Drainer and Angel Drainer.

Another wallet-draining service that stole millions of dollars, Monkey Drainer, announced its closure in March, stating that it was "time to move on to something better."
