Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced that Sam Altman and Greg Brockman will join Microsoft after leaving OpenAI.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced that Sam Altman and Greg Brockman will join Microsoft after leaving OpenAI. In his statement on November 20, Nadella expressed his excitement about sharing the news that "Sam Altman and Greg Brockman will join Microsoft to lead a new artificial intelligence research team alongside their colleagues."

In Nadella's statement, it is mentioned that Microsoft will continue to uphold its partnership with OpenAI, and he is eagerly looking forward to getting to know Emmett Shear, the new CEO who took over from Altman on November 20. Altman also shared a message shortly after Nadella's announcement, stating, "the mission continues."

Altman was dismissed from his role at OpenAI on November 17, with the claim that he was not sincere in his communication with the board of directors. Following this incident, Brockman also resigned from his position on the board. In a social media statement made after leaving OpenAI, Brockman expressed both being "shocked" and "saddened" by the events. While the official announcement indicated Brockman's resignation, in his own post, Brockman claimed that he was "removed from office."

During this time, Mira Murati, former Chief Technology Officer of OpenAI, was appointed as the interim CEO. Murati joined OpenAI in 2018 when the company was still operating as a non-profit research center.
