The operator of Etherscan, which serves the Ethereum blockchain, has started the new year with new acquisitions related to the Solana blockchain. On January 3rd, Etherscan officially announced the acquisition of Solscan, a leading block explorer in the Solana ecosystem. This acquisition took place as part of Etherscan's efforts to expand blockchain data services to various networks and was described as a "collaborative partnership."
Solscan, established in 2021, serves more than three million users monthly and has over 23,000 subscribers in the Twitter community. Solscan's block explorer offers many features familiar to Etherscan users, including detailed address, token, and transaction data, APIs, dashboards, and non-fungible token (NFT) metadata.
Following the acquisition, Etherscan stated that it would continue its mission to provide reliable and unbiased access to blockchain data. The company plans to integrate additional features among different explorers and provide enhanced support.
Matthew Tan, CEO, and co-founder of Etherscan, remarked, "The Solscan team has proven their expertise over the years by providing detailed data and analysis. Their expertise in making blockchain data accessible and user-friendly aligns perfectly with our mission at Etherscan."
This move by Etherscan occurred amid a significant rally in the price of SOL, the native cryptocurrency of the Solana blockchain. On December 22nd, Solana's market value briefly surpassed XRP and BNB. SOL has shown a 60% increase in the last 30 days, reaching levels not seen since 2022 by the end of 2023.
According to data, Solana is currently trading around $110 with a 3.5% decline in the last 24 hours, making it the fifth-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, valued at approximately $47 billion.
Some market observers state that there is an ongoing debate about whether Solana can surpass Ethereum in the future. It was reported that Solana briefly surpassed Ethereum in terms of decentralized exchange (DEX) trading volume towards the end of December.
Additionally, it was mentioned that Solana surpassed Ethereum in Google searches at the end of December.
