Google Has Released Its Artificial Intelligence Model Named Gemini.

The tech giant announced that its artificial intelligence chat application Bard has been renamed as Gemini and its free and paid mobile applications have been launched in the United States.

Google announced that the artificial intelligence chatbot application formerly known as Bard has been officially released under the name Gemini and is now available to users in the United States.

Sissie Hsiao, the General Manager and Vice President of Google Assistant and Bard, announced on February 8th that the company's 11-month-old artificial intelligence chat software now shares the same name as its multi-modal large language model.

Gemini symbolizes Google's most advanced large language artificial intelligence model called Ultra 1.0. The company stated that artificial intelligence is more capable in highly complex tasks such as coding, logical reasoning, following intricate instructions, and collaborating on creative projects.

According to the company's blog post, Gemini Advanced, the premium version of the chat software, allows for longer, more detailed conversations and better understanding of context from previous requests. It can also act as a personal tutor, assist in advanced coding topics, and brainstorm for creative projects.

Gemini Advanced can be used under the Google One AI Premium subscription for $20 per month, and it will soon be integrated into Google services such as Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and Slides.

The new mobile application for Gemini was launched on February 8th in the United States for Android and Apple iOS platforms, and the company stated that the application will soon be available in a wider geographical area and in more languages.

The mobile version of Gemini can generate captions for photos, answer questions related to articles, perform searches, control smart home devices, and aims to be a conversational, multi-modal artificial intelligence assistant.

Hsiao stated, "Before expanding, we ensure compliance with local regulatory requirements by collaborating with local regulators."

In a separate blog post, Google CEO Sundar Pichai claimed that the technology behind Gemini Advanced can tackle many complex issues and even outperform the smartest individuals.

"The largest model Ultra 1.0, utilizing a combination of 57 subjects including mathematics, physics, history, law, medicine, and ethics with the Massive Multitask Language Understanding (MMLU), is the first model to perform better than human experts."

Gemini faces tough competition. Microsoft-backed OpenAI released the first version of ChatGPT in November 2022 and upgraded to the GPT-4 version in March 2023.

When Gemini was announced in December, Google claimed "extremely high performance" on 30 out of 32 academic criteria used in developing the Ultra version's language model.

Additionally, it was reported on February 8th that Google participated in the development of "nutrition labels" that describe how artificial intelligence, including for digital content, is generated or altered.

The company will collaborate with Adobe, BBC, Microsoft, Sony, and others through the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) to work on technical standards for digital identity information.
